f: Jude Rawson

Jude RawsonHaving been creative from an early age Jude trained as a window dresser where she used her painting skills to devise backdrops for large department store displays. She combined this successfully with portrait painting. Her inspiration is predominantly late 19th Century painters and illustrators, J.W Waterhouse and Arthur Rackham being particular favourites.  She works in various media, using oils for portraits and watercolor & acrylic for landscape and animal representations. On moving to Upton, Jude has painted watercolours of the local scenery which have proved popular as cards and bookmarks. Jude has had many exhibitions, including at Mansfield & Newark Museums and the Gilstrap Centre in Newark.

JUDE RAWSON – STUDIO

A tour of Jude’s studio.

Jude has a garden studio which overlooks her favourite rose border situated in the back garden of her delightful early 19th Century cottage. During the winter months she prefers to paint in the dining room with a roaring fire in the woodburning stove.

JUDE RAWSON – WORK

Jude works mainly from her own photographs using oils built up in thin layers for portrait commissions. Her watercolours are finished with fine brushes and mapping pens. She also enjoys doing pen & wash house and garden commissions.
