Bev Ramsbotham has been painting, drawing and sewing since she was child, her paternal grandmother taught her to sew and stitching has always been a part of her life. She has a small studio space in the centre of Retford where she takes commissions for embroideries, textile wall-hangings and Hand made jewellery. Bev loves the countryside that surrounds Retford and uses it as inspiration for her art, landscapes made up of many layers of fibres and embroidery stitches.
BEV RAMSBOTHAM’S STUDIO
Bev is based at ‘The Hub’ in Retford, a beautiful Georgian building on Canon Square with a view of St. Swithun’s Church beyond. Although closed at the moment, it is normally open to the public, and is home to several other artists. It is a lovely environment to work in, sometimes busy with ideas, creativity, & visitors & sometimes lovely and quiet.

Bev is 1 of 12 artists featured in an exhibition of photographs (by Neil Pledger) showing behind-the-scenes glimpses into the working worlds of a sample of Nottinghamshire artists and makers. Curated by Inspire: Culture Learning & Libraries to accompany the Open Studios Notts events, the exhibition has been made available online from 24 April to 4 June, 2020.
BEV RAMSBOTHAM’S WORK
Bev uses fabric remnants to create heavily textured and embroidered pieces of art. She also uses wools and fibres to make felted pieces of jewellery, hand made dolls and wall-hangings. She incorporates dried and pressed flowers in some of her creations. Bev has a collection of antique and vintage textiles. She is currently working on new pieces inspired by the intricacies of hand made antique lace.
