Gina SlaterCOLLAGE
I like to collage with printed papers which I have made using plywood print blocks with the grain enhanced. Afterwards, I develop the final image with gouache painted effects, often highlighting the pattern of dappled light and traces of colour and fauna seen on walks.

Originally from Mansfield, Gina graduated with a degree in Printmaking from Norwich School of Art in 1994. She moved around with work from Norwich to London then Merseyside before coming back to the East Midlands. Although work took her away from printmaking, she carved out space wherever she landed to keep sketching and painting. 2020 has enabled her to start building a print studio again. She is interested in textures and colour and produces individual landscape inspired pieces.

GINA SLATER’S STUDIO

My studio is a small outside shed in summer where I can hear the frogs and birds chatter. In winter I move indoors and a conservatory is commandeered. The switch changes the materials I use, printmaking during the dryer months and more fabric and collage pieces over winter.

GINA SLATER’S WORK

If you are interested in her work, contact Gina Slater.

I enjoy experimenting with different mediums to see what can be incorporated with printmaking. I’ve tried relief wood carving, ceramics panels, photography and textiles. Prints aren’t done in editions as each time I pull a print I alter the colour ways or overprint with a rotated image so no two are the same. Now and again I go off at a tangent and try to sculpt!.
