I’ve always enjoyed creating as a pastime to quiet my mind. In the last few years I’ve undertaken day courses to learn how to operate a glass kiln and a hot foil press. My second hand vintage press isn’t the most reliable of machines but she works hard to try and create the prints I’m looking for. The often imperfect nature of worn typefaces reflects my general aesthetic. I enjoy trying to turn pages of 2am ideas scribbled in a notebook into a reality and am constantly learning and experimenting with new techniques.

CHARLOTTE WHITE – STUDIO

I work in several spaces around my home as the heavy equipment lives in a lean-to studio space and the garage. Then in a spare bedroom I’ve got a long desk with the computer, printer, cutting mat (a mess of whatever I’m working on) and a Victorian clerk’s desk.

CHARLOTTE WHITE – WORK

Inspired by antiquarian books and classic literature I enjoy creating a range of cards, gifts and less conventional mixed media work incorporating vintage objects. The traditional illustrations found in turn of the century publications are my current favourites to work with.

ACTIVITIES

This video shows the paper collage rainbow sign I made to thank the key workers still busy keeping the country going during lockdown and how easy it is for anyone to make one. Suitable for all ages with adult supervision – use safety scissors or help with the cutting out part for little ones.
