When is the deadline to sign up?
The final deadline to sign up for Open Studios 2026 is Monday 19 January 2026
How much does it cost?
£50 for an individual artist, £150 for groups or studios. This includes entry in a widely circulated brochure of all the events with an anticipated print run of 14,000. Each artist receives 100 copies to distribute among their own networks. Each individual-entry artist can put themselves forward to have their photograph taken to be featured in the library exhibitions and for the artist’s own use. Inspire select a few artists each year.
If you say Yes when applying, we’ll be in touch to ask for some photos of your work and studio – so that Inspire can choose a varied selection across the county and different mediums. By agreeing to be photographed, Inspire and OSNotts can use the photographs, and the artist will receive copies of the jpgs for their own use.
I cannot make those weekends. Can I exhibit another time?
No, sorry. The times and dates are set to make visiting easy for the public. However, you definitely don’t have to exhibit on each date. You can exhibit on as many of the available dates as you like. You must be available from 11am-5 pm on each day you participate.
I cannot exhibit from my house; can I still participate?
If you live in the area, but cannot use your own location, consider asking a local business or friend if you can use their space. A lot of artists collaborate like this.
Can I exhibit from different locations on different days?
Yes, but we charge for each address/entry as it requires multiple listings.
Do I have to be there on the days I participate?
Yes, as Open Studios is all about interaction, and the public will have travelled to see you. The whole concept allows visitors a face-to-face experience that is beneficial to both parties. However, if you need to take a break to pick up the kids for example, please make sure someone is there to cover you in your absence.
What kind of art can I exhibit?
All types of physical/tangible art are welcome: painting, sculpture / ceramics / photography etc.
How much should I charge for my art?
This is completely up to you, but there are good guidelines online about how to price up your works. These take into account time, materials, promotion, living costs, originality, quality and competition.
Do I have to pay commission?
No, Open Studios do not take commission. Every pound you make is yours. However, if you decide to exhibit from a local shop/community centre etc, their rules may dictate that you have to pay them commission.
Do I have to have insurance?
We recommend getting short-term public liability insurance if you don’t already have it, to protect the property, visitors & yourself against any mishap or accident. OS Notts cannot be held liable for any loss or damage.
Do I have to let everyone in even if I don’t feel comfortable?
Absolutely not. If you don’t like the look of someone, or feel threatened, treat your home like you would any other day of the year. This is your house and they have no right to enter. If someone tries to force entry call the police.
What if I have to cancel?
If you cancel before 21st February, you will be issued with a full refund & your name will not be published in the guide/website. If you cancel after this date, you will not receive a refund, as the guide will go to print with your name in it. If this occurs, please let us know as soon as possible so we can make the public aware. We will also ask for you to put a sign on your door to make visitors aware.
I live just outside Nottinghamshire, can I participate?
We will look at this on a case-by-case basis, feel free to contact us.
What happens next?
Once you have entered, we will be in touch during January to ask for payment and for photos of your work for the brochure.
