Having found her natural talent early in life, Helen loved designing & making through her school years, she followed her heart and studied Art & Design at college, and went on to achieve a BA(Hons) Crafts Degree at Manchester Metropolitan University, specialising in Wood, Metal and Textiles in 1995.

Joseph’s father taught him to renovate furniture, and his passion soon blossomed only to be blighted by his mental health and a breakdown. He later went on to qualify as a Handcrafted Cabinet Maker. Now, 30 years on, coping with CPTSD, he has managed to come full circle, and is embracing his second wind.

STEVENSON & SOAMES – STUDIO

Their Sherwood based workshop is a large relaxed, creative space with an abundance of natural light. Jam packed full of curiosities, projects on the go and stock post creation. Cleverly divided into a wood shop and textile studio with clean and messy areas allowing them to use a wide range of mediums.

STEVENSON & SOAMES – WORK

Furniture makers Stevenson & Soames rescue unloved furniture and deliberately seek a variety of salvaged materials, such as cast iron, metalworks, fabrics, clocks and wood. By combining these elements they create highly desirable ‘one off’ pieces, that are sure to be eco savvy.

ACTIVITIES

This video shows the full reupholstery of a 1950’s boudoir chair from start to finish. It’s alway a pleasure to bring an old chair back to life. Upholstery is just one of the many skills used in the creation of their furniture. This piece was a private commission and is not for sale.
