After a long career in textile design I took early retirement in July 2019 and have been working as a painter since then. I work from my studio in the heart of historic Southwell, Notts. I paint in acrylic and use hand printed papers and other materials to explore my love for colour, pattern, texture and mark making. My paintings are intuitive and sophisticated responses to all the things I love!

June 2020 – ‘Balance’ won People’s Prize, Old Lock Up Gallery, Cromford.
September 2020 – ‘Juxtapose’ selected for Harley Gallery Open Exhibition.

GILL EDWARDS – STUDIO

My studio is on the first floor of the Minster Chambers in Southwell, from my window I have a view of Southwell Minster. I paint on several paintings at once, working mostly on board and paper. I also spend time printmaking and painting my own papers to incorporate in paintings.

I hope to open my studio to visitors on 5-6 June & 8 June, 10am – 4pm.
♦  No wheelchair access – my studio is on the first floor, accessible by stairs only.
♦  My studio is next door to the Minster Refectory where visitors can get refreshments.
♦  Please book a visit through Eventbrite.

Meanwhile, here is a brief virtual tour:

GILL EDWARDS – WORK

My paintings are abstract or have a subtle vessel image, most have several layers, and the final composition and colour palette evolves as I’m painting. I love using Gelli plates to create my own images, often on tissue paper, which I then embed into a painting, or embellish with gold leaf to create stand-alone small paintings.
