I started painting with watercolours after I saw an advert in a local art shop “Learn to paint watercolours in your lunch hour!” This sounded like my timescale as at the time I had a young family and was teaching part time. After many lessons, I went on to run workshops and art clubs in local primary schools and gave talks to local WI groups. I have exhibited as part of The Collingham Open Studio group at The Royal Oak in Collingham and am hoping to be able to host our informal WI painting group again this year.

CLARE WATSON – STUDIO

I am very fortunate to have a large airy space where I can do my various projects (sewing, crafts and Christmas wreath making) as well as painting. It is also a great social space for parties, however, I do get blamed for monopolizing it!

CLARE WATSON – WORK

Having recently dabbled in oils, I am intrigued at the different approach to painting. However I love the lightness and speed with which something can be conveyed with watercolour. Its unpredictability, from working wet into wet or splattering paint for looseness. I like to attempt a wide variety of subjects, from trees, woodland, landscapes to animals and buildings.
