Contemporary, powerful and vibrant abstract paintings evoking natural, urban and emotional landscapes.
18 Mansfield Court, Nottingham NG5 2BW
I’m a self-taught artist based in Nottingham. I’ve been a practising artist all my adult life. I started out working with machine embroidery, moving to digital illustration and greeting cards after 15 years in textiles. Over the past three years I have been developing my practice as a painter. Painting is something I have always enjoyed and in a way it feels like coming home to be working in this medium now. For the first time in my creative life my work is abstract, although figurative elements are creeping into my paintings of late.
CORRINA ROTHWELL – STUDIO
A room in my flat serves as my studio. It’s on the third floor and has wonderful light. I work mainly on large unstretched canvases which I nail to the wall, and I have a large table on which I do smaller works on paper and panel.
CORRINA ROTHWELL – WORK
My paintings are ‘built’ on unstretched canvas using acrylic paint, collage, photo transfer and a wide variety of mark-making media – felt-tips, pastels, inks, pens and relief printing. Currently my paintings are strongly evocative of landscapes with an underlying narrative suggested by the presence of man-made structures.
