ACRYLIC AND OIL PAINTING
Still Life, Floral and Land and Seascapes. I vary the way I paint depending on the scale and subject matter. I frame the paintings myself with my husband Andrew. I love colour and texture and exploring movement in my work.

I always loved Art class at school studied at A level and wanted to go to college. Life got in the way and I was married at 21, and moved to Canada for 5 years. Back in Southwell in 1986 I opened an Interior design and Gift shop ‘Hillier’s’. 4 Children later and I developed MS, which strangely has given me the liberty to be more selfish with my time. Andrew and I run a holiday letting business in North Wales near Aberdaron on the Llyn Peninsula. I run the booking side, and Andrew does the lion’s share of the maintenance. With reduced mobility, around 5 years ago I started painting again. It gives me purpose, a great way to relax and improve at something, taking the focus off what I can no longer do. I have had 2 large exhibitions in Newark, and been very fortunate to sell quite a lot.
We make the frames ourselves in the garage. I am self-taught Artist, although I have many friends who are trained Artists who have all been very encouraging, and given me valuable tips along the way.
SARAH NESBITT (HEELIS) – STUDIO
I do not have a studio but paint in situ, my surroundings: objects, the landscape or flowers. When in Newark I use the green room which occasionally transforms into a dining room, or the kitchen late at night when all are in bed. In Wales I paint outside wherever the light or weather permits. The garage in Newark is set up with the guillotine and under-pinner for picture framing and storage.
SARAH NESBITT (HEELIS) – WORK
I use Acrylic or Oils on canvas or board and vary the way I apply the paint, depending on the size and idea I have in mind. I live with the finished painting for a while, start something new, and then go back and review, sometimes just adding a bit and other times radically altering the painting. Happy accidents often create my best work. Still life, flowers, land and seascapes. I paint from fairly small sizes to quite large, increasing the size of brushes and strokes. I aim to add some story into the finished piece.
